Tropical Landscape Architecture Graduate Program<br /> Objectives of the Program<br /> The graduate program leading to the degree of Master of Tropical Landscape Architecture aims to instill in the student a systematic outlook in the interplay of built-forms with the natural surroundings so that these do not become inimical to the cultural and social fabric of the locale.<br /> The program is responsive to the pressing need to elevate the profession of landscape architecture to a point where it shall significantly benefit humankind, the educational philosophy of the program is for nurturing man in his environment and for the enhancement of the beneficial ecological forces through deliberate design of the land.<br /> Culture and behavior through infrastructure shall be instilled upon the participants of the program. Environmental awareness and the development of professional competence shall be the essence of the program which shall be implemented through:<br /> a. conferences<br /> b. Research Undertakings<br /> c. Publications and Documentation<br /> d. Community Outreach<br /> e. International Cooperation and Exchange<br /> f. Financial Grants<br /> The Masteral Program leading to the degree of Master of Tropical Landscape Architecture is administered by the College of Architecture, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.<br /> Admission Requirements<br /> To satisfy the University requirements for admission to a master’s program, applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree of Landscape Architecture. However, applicants who are holders of degrees other than the aforementioned degree may be accepted but will be required to take additional courses to comply with the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Landscape Architecture.<br /> Holders of degree in the physical planning professions such as civil engineering and architecture, as well as in botany, agriculture and forestry will have to take additional subjects in landscape design and/ or construction upon the advice of the Program Adviser in order to comply with minimum requirements of the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program of the University of the Philippines.<br /> Degree holders who do not have any subjects in eastern and western cultures shall enroll in equivalent subjects in the University of the Philippines besides those required in the Master of Tropical Landscape Architecture Program. The Program Adviser shall assist the student in preparing his plan of study.<br /> Application requirements<br /> Applicants must submit the following:<br /> a. Accomplished Graduate Program Application for Admission form<br /> b. Two accomplished recommendation forms from professors and/ or current employer<br /> c. Official transcript of records<br /> d. 2 sets of 50mm x 50mm I.D. pictures<br /> e. Certificate of English Proficiency (TOEFL) for foreign applicants whose medium of instruction is not English<br /> Degree holders who do not have any subjects in eastern and western cultures shall enroll in equivalent subjects in the University of the Philippines besides those required in the Master of Tropical Landscape Architecture Program. Applications should be received before April 15 for registration in the succeeding academic year which opens by June.<br /> Program Structure<br /> Every graduate student whether on the degree or non-degree program of the Master of Tropical Landscape Architecture shall plan his own course work with the advice of the Program Adviser. Arch. 202: Landscape Design & Culture<br /> The historic, symbolic, aesthetic, technological and social purposes of landscape design; its physical manifestation as a mirror of culture.<br /> 3 hours a week (lecture): credit 3 units<br /> L. Arch 205: Land Forms and Other Nature Forms<br /> Study of environmental and ecological factors as related to decision-making for landscape planning and design.<br /> 3 hours a week (lecture): credit 3 units<br /> L. Arch. 209: 20th Century Landscape Architecture<br /> Case studies of outstanding examples of landscape design with emphasis in the tropics; their implications in the future.<br /> 3 hours a week (lecture): credit 3 units<br /> B. Landscape Management and Technology<br /> L. Arch. 250: landscape Construction and Management<br /> Analytical studies in landscape construction detailing, land forms alteration and vegetation management.<br /> 7 hours a week (1 hour lecture, 6 hours studio): credit 3 units<br /> L. Arch. 255: Advanced Regional Landscape Technology<br /> Issues in landscape transformation and management; methodologies for environmental conservation, development and protection.<br /> 5 hours a week (2 hours lecture, 3 hours studio): credit 3 units<br /> C. Landscape Design<br /> L. Arch. 260: Advanced Tropical Landscape Design<br /> Comprehensive analysis of program, user characteristics, region and site.
