M. of Adv. Studies in Arch. |
 | Category Architecture | Description: Since the winter semester of 1992/93, the Faculty of Architecture of
the eth Zurich has offered a postgraduate degree in architecture
(nds Architektur). The program’s organizational framework is quite
broadly conceived. It allows for studies in the form of course
offerings as well as independent, individual studies. The Postgraduate
Program in Architecture can be pursued full-time or in combination
with an active professional life. Starting in spring 2005 the succesful
completion of the postgraduate studies will be certified with
a Master of Advances Studies (mas) (in reservation upon final decision
of the Executive Board of eth) and therefore consequently
postgraduate studies will be called mas Programs.
1.Goals and Audience
The framework offered by the mas Program in Architecture is intended
to allow graduates of the eth, and those of comparable
institutions, to deepen their knowledge of specific aspects of architecture.
Furthermore, courses which are designed to compliment professional
practice are intended to strengthen the contact and
exchange between the school and the profession by targeting an
audience of experienced professionals who wish to maintain
active practice while pursuing continuing education.
Finally, there are individual programs which are addressed to
those people who wish to return to the workplace.
2.Areas of Instruction and Study
Within the Faculty of Architecture, the individual professors and the
institutes represent a broad palette of the discipline’s aspects. The
course of study described in the following information, which lists
these different aspects subdivided in three categories, essentially
facilitates a focused form of continuing education. This is in turn
made possible by an interdisciplinary program.
1st Course of Study
Design
2nd Course of Study
Technology
3rd Course of Study
Humanities and Social Sciences.
General Information
Structure of the mas Program in Architecture
1. Structure and Length of the Course of Studies
There are two fundamental structures of studies in continuing education
which are offered by the individual professors and the institutes:
– Programs organized around courses for larger and smaller groups of
mas students;
– programs individually tailored for mas students.
The mas Program involves approximately 600 hours of lecture
courses and other courses, and of a three-to-four month long project
comprising either research or a design project.
The mas Program can be completed as:
– A one-year long full-time program or
– a two-year program in combination with professional activity.
In the case of the part-time program, the course work takes up
approximately 25% of the workweek from the first through the
third semester. The time constraints of the fourth semester are
dependent upon the character and scope of the thesis project
undertaken. A written agreement signed by the employer is required
to matriculation in the mas course.
Only one of the offered programs may be undertaken and
completed.
2.Number of Participants
The number of students varies amongst the programs. Any program structured as course work
requires a matriculation of at least three students.
3. Standards and Diploma
Standards are based upon intermediate examinations, independent
study projects and the mas thesis. Further details are established
in the Regulations for the mas Program or may be agreed upon for each program individually, or with individual professors.
A diploma (Master of Advanced Studies) with the title ‹mas eth
in Architecture› (in reservation upon final decision of the Executive
Board of eth) certifies the successful completion of mas Programs. | School: Swiss Fed. Inst. of Tech. Zurich | City: Zurich | Country: Switzerland | Start: 03/01/2007 | Duration: 2 Semesters | Type: Master | Fee: € 1722 |
