BA(Hons) in Int. Design
Increasing demand from the global industry has seen the changes in the practice of Interior Design over time. The BA (Hons) Interior Design programme offers a professionally oriented degree pathway, which prepares graduates for a design practice in the multi-disciplinary area of spatial design, with a greater awareness of current social and design contexts. Consistently running in tandem with the BA (Hons) Exhibition and Retail Design pathway, the BA (Hons) Interior Design programme offers an exposure to design approaches and practices that crosses boundaries between these two disciplines and engages in invaluable experience towards students’ learning exposure. The cumulative educational experiences serve to cultivate a range of transferable knowledge and skills in raising current social, cultural and design contextual awareness. These aspects are introduced to provide students the opportunity to develop a distinctive portfolio of works, as well as encouraging flexibility and adaptability in an ever-changing and competitive world. Students will discover, develop and express personal sensibilities towards an innovative and diverse specialization in interior design and develop one’s own line of enquiry which might lead them to work across disciplines and an exciting interpretation of the interior design media.
Intermediate Level
TID1018 Design in Context (30 credits)
This module develops students’ appreciation and understanding of design work in the context of research inquiry and evaluation through examination of identified issues related to historical and contemporary visual and material concepts. Students will investigate visual and cultural concepts and their ‘manifestation’ across an identified range of topics and to provide contextual and evaluative commentary on aspects which affect the representation of the designed and built environment.
TID1222 ID Historical & Contextual Studies (10 credits)
This module aims to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the historical, cultural and social influences which have affected the design process. 20th and 21st Century European design developments will be examined, with consideration in the earliest inception of retail and exhibition design borrowed from architectural trade fairs and world expositions. South East Asia’s development with attention to Singapore’s designed and built environment since colonialism, will be investigated.
TID 1296 The Designed and Built Environment (20 credits)
This module aims to develop students’ awareness and understanding of identified important contextual and practical issues of interior and spatial design proposals. It seeks to develop an understanding of aesthetic and functional considerations in achieving ambience and mood of a spatial environment. Students are expected to select and identify materials, products and finishes deemed appropriate for the intended spatial environment.

Students will be provided with an overview of the organisation and the interplay between the various types of design, consultants and professionals, with which the professional designer may be concerned. Students will recognize and understand the relevance and importance of design office administration and organisational approaches of design project management and work.
THD1234 ID Issues Design Project (40 credits)
This module develops students’ understanding of professional expertise in enquiry, evaluation and communication of design ideas and proposals, which demonstrate an awareness of and the compliance and interpretation of identified ID issues and spatial design concepts. It aims to further students’ awareness of issues which relate to visual and material culture from a historic and contemporary viewpoint and to consider varying approaches towards design manipulation and expression.
THD1144 Research Study (20 credits)
This module aims to provide students an opportunity to undertake research, enquiry and appraisal of a range of identified contextual issues. This will assist students in their subsequent Major Design Project through undertaking a range of investigative studies including contextual background information, identifying issues, case-studies evaluation, field-study enquiry, client and audience considerations, trends and developments, and other identified factors that are related to Interior and Exhibition and Retail Design.
THD1125 Major Design Project (40 credits)
